FMail to IMail converter
Documentation
**********************************************************
PLEASE READ THIS TEXT CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!!!!
**********************************************************
1. Disclaimer
=============
I cannot guarantee that FM2IM does anything at all or that it won't destroy
your configuration, although I (Torsten Schneider) have checked everything
carefully.
In no way Torsten Schneider may be liable for any loss of profit or any other
damage. This program is supplied 'as is' without any warranty.
This tool will do a major part of the conversion, but not everything. I
recommend to check EVERYTHING manually to avoid strange behaviour.
FM2IM is freeware, so you may distribute it in your BBS, or whereever you like.
If you discover anything strange, do not hesitate to send me a mail.
You can reach me via:
a) FidoNet: 2:2457/140 Zyxel 19k2
2:2457/141 (ISDN)
2:2457/142 (USR V34)
b) Internet: schneider@mabi.de or
schneidt@chemie.uni-marburg.de
2. Copyrights
=============
The following copyrighted programs are mentioned in this document:
FMail - Folkert. J. Wijnstra
IMail - Andreas Klein
3. How to obtain the newest version
===================================
a) via file request at 2:2457/140, /141, or /142 (see above)
Filename FM2IM*.*
b) via anonymous ftp:
ftp.chemie.uni-marburg.de, directory /pub2/fidonet/imail
4. Running FM2IM
================
FM2IM should be invoked as follows:
FM2IM <path to FMail> <path to IMail>
e.g. FM2IM D:\FMAIL D:\IMAIL
After a short period, you should see a success message or an error message if
something went wrong.
After that, IMTHINGS PACK /P should be invoked in order to create the necessary
index files.
5. What You Still Have to Change Manually
=========================================
Due to the fact that IMail has lots more features than FMail, you still have to
do some changes within IMSETUP manually:
a) General Options - Subdirectories
- Unsecure Inbound
- Temp outbound packets
- Temp inbound packets
- the log file names
- path to ECHOMAIL.JAM (set equal to the Hudson path)
- path to the userbase
b) General Options - System
c) General Options - Log Options
d) Area Manager
There are three areas (BADMAIL, DUPES, and PERSMAIL) with a special function
that will be added by FM2IM if required. The settings (Group number and so
on) have to be completed manually.
Furthermore, there are some facts that you should keep in mind:
a) The read and write levels (Area data base) are assumed to be equal. You have
to correct this manually.
b) FMail does not support 5D outbound, so no domains will be added
automatically.
c) The settings for the forward request manager will not be converted.
